Question

What is the Bible's definition of sin?

Answer

This question is dealt with at length in the series "What Is Sin." But this is the short answer, the Bible defines sin as:
  • Violation of God's law
  • Whatever is unrighteous
  • Whatever violates one's conscience
  • Causing someone else to violate their conscience
  • Whatever violates love for God or for man.

Before Christ's atonement, sin was primarily defined as breaking God's commandments. But after Christ's atonement, sin is primarily defined as breaking His Law of Love. If one obeys this Love Law, one will fulfill every moral commandment God ever gave.
